Energy Service Corps Completes First Year

For Immediate Release

Energy Service Corps celebrated the successful completion of its first year on Monday.

In its first year, the program recruited and trained hundreds of college students to give back to the community through service and education around energy efficiency issues.

"Energy Service Corps’ mission is simple – help Coloradans save energy, save money and save the environment while training the next generation of civic leaders," said the Director Jenn Engstrom. "In our fist year we educated over 6,300 K-12 students and provided nearly 900 free home energy assessments."

The goal of Energy Service Corps is to give every student, from kindergarten to college, within a 50 mile radius of our college chapters, the tools and knowledge to reduce their energy use and help teach adults to do the same.

Energy Service Corps is a joint project between the Colorado Public Interest Research Group Foundation and AmeriCorps that is based on seven campuses across Colorado – Metropolitan State, Community College of Denver, CU Denver, CU Boulder, CU Colorado Springs, Colorado State University, and University of Northern Colorado.  At each campus students can enroll through AmeriCorps to receive a scholarship for volunteering with Energy Service Corps.
