Five percent of the roads in the City and County of Denver account for fifty percent of the fatalities. These roads are often referred to as the High Injury Network and they are primarily arterials – the larger roads that cut across Denver. Think Federal, Colorado, and Colfax. Last week, CDOT stepped up to focus dollars on safety and multimodal improvements on them. 

This week, a coalition of zero waste advocates sent a letter to Governor Polis outlining our recommendations for reopening restaurants and retail stores without unnecessarily increasing the use of single-use products. As the letter states – “It’s a false choice to have to choose between reducing unnecessary waste and protecting our residents and employees from COVID-19.”

Electric vehicles don’t just promise to tackle our air quality problems. They will also bring additional consumer benefits from lower fuel costs and fewer maintenance expenses.

Good news came out of Denver City Council last night after they unanimously passed new safety and operational rules for electric scooters to allow their use in bike lanes and on city streets that have speed limits under 30 mph.

Last night, to little fanfare, the City and County of Denver unanimously approved a climate change proclamation.

This proclamation is important for a number of reasons.

Today, a new rail line opens that connects Denver’s International Airport with downtown Denver. The “A line,” as it is known, is one of nine lines of light-rail, commuter rail and bus rapid transit that will connect the Denver metro area when it is all completed. This was a major priority for CoPIRG and we campaigned heavily for it, knocking on doors, organizing community events, building a broad coalition and securing support in the media and from elected officials.

Today, I had the honor of speaking with members of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) who were in town to announce positive steps to protect consumers when in comes to forced arbitration clauses. Forced arbitration clauses eliminate Americans’ access to the courts, forcing them instead into a private system set up by corporations to favor corporations.

Today, I went to a VW dealership with one of the 482,000 VW owners who unknowingly purchased a “clean” diesel vehicle that was designed to get away with violating the law. I went there to encourage dealerships to join with VW customers and call on VW to give people their money back for these misleading vehicles.
